This virtual course on Participation in IEC was developed and delivered by the experts Luis Iván Hernández of ANCE/Mexico, in the Spanish version, and Tony Zertuche of the USNC/United States, in the English version. Both have a lot of experience in organizing the IEC National Committees, and are members of the IEC Standards Management Board (SMB/IEC). Both sessions were advised by Amaury Santos, IEC Manager for the Latin America and the Caribbean region.
The virtual workshop was held in 2 different sessions, one in Spanish, July 10 and 11, 2018, and another version in English, July 12 and 13, 2018. 48 people participated in both versions of the following 26 countries: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, St. Kitts & Nevis, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.
The objective of the course was to explain how IEC is formed and functions from its government bodies to technical work; how to form and manage a National Electrotechnical Committee and how to participate more effectively in the IEC works. The course was aimed at members of the National Electrotechnical Committees and staff of the NSBs member of COPANT related to standardization.
